Jeg arbeider hovedsakelig med tegninger og malerier laget med akvarell, gouache og fargeblyant i store formater. Motivene bygger jeg opp fra en geometrisk grunnstruktur som jeg konstruerer ved hjelp av store linjaler, vater og passer. Denne abstrakte rammen danner utgangspunktet for innflettede figurative elementer. De figurative motivene er basert på fotografier jeg finner på nett eller i bøker – ofte insekter, planter og andre elementer fra naturen. Jeg tegner også frihåndsmotiver, noe som gir en mer fantasifull og assosiativ «drodling».
Akvarelltegningen er malt på 640 grams bomullspapir som jeg kjøper på rull. Det tykke papiret tåler mye vann og gjør det mulig å jobbe i store formater over lang tid. Arbeidet består av tre papirark som henger side om side, uten innramming – noe jeg liker, fordi det åpner for et mer monumentalt uttrykk i materialets egen rytme og tyngde.
Solveig Bergene bor og arbeider i Oslo. Hun er utdannet ved Kunsthøgskolen i Bergen (bachelor og master) og ved National College of Art and Design i Dublin. Hun har hatt separatutstillinger ved blant annet Kunstbanken Hedmark Kunstsenter og Sandnes Kunstforening, og har deltatt i gruppeutstillinger som Høstutstillingen og ved Kunsthall Trondheim.

I primarily work with drawing and painting using watercolor, gouache, and colored pencil on a large scale. The motifs are built upon a geometric framework that I construct using large rulers, a level, and a compass. This abstract structure serves as the basis for interwoven figurative elements. The figurative motifs are often drawn from photographs I find online or in books—typically insects, plants, and other elements of nature. I also create freehand drawings, which allow for a more imaginative and associative form of “doodling.”
This watercolor drawing work is made on 640-gram cotton paper, which I purchase by the roll. The heavy paper withstands large amounts of water and makes it possible to work in large formats over an extended period of time. The piece consists of three sheets of paper displayed side by side without framing—a choice I appreciate, as it opens up for a more monumental expression through the natural rhythm and weight of the material itself.
Solveig Bergene lives and works in Oslo. She was educated at the Bergen Academy of Art and Design (BA and MFA) and at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. She has held solo exhibitions at, among others, Kunstbanken Hedmark Kunstsenter and Sandnes Kunstforening, and has participated in group exhibitions such as the Høstutstillingen and at Kunsthall Trondheim.
