Hieroglyphs of Revelation er et lekent, men samtidig poetisk og eksistensielt videoverk som består av appropriert materiale. Det er en eklektisk miks av filmer, dokumentarer, musikkvideoer og sitatfragmenter fra blant annet forfatterne Virginia Woolf, Roger Caillois og T.S. Eliot, i tillegg til musikk av Chopin og Britney Spears, for å nevne noe.
Grunnleggende sett er videoverket et semiotisk prosjekt som undersøker prosessen med å tyde og dekryptere de utallige tegnene, signalene og meldingene som sirkulerer og strømmer gjennom vår mediemettede virkelighet. En verden hvor fart, oppmerksomhetsøkonomi, algoritmer og mis- og desinformasjon utfordrer grensene mellom sannhet og løgn, ekte og falskt, kunnskap og underholdning, meningsfullhet og meningsløshet.
Ørjan Amundsen bor og arbeider på Berger i Buskerud. Han er utdannet ved Kunstakademiet i Tromsø (UiT) og Kunstakademiet i Trondheim (NTNU). Hans kunstneriske praksis inkluderer video, musikk, tekst og installasjon – ofte i kombinasjon. Ved å rette blikket mot medias makt og allestedsnærværenhet, undersøker han samtidens kommunikative strategier og meningssystemer, med mål om å synliggjøre og teste mulighetene for manipulasjon og meningsdannelse.

Hieroglyphs of Revelation is a playful yet poetic and existential video work composed of appropriated material—an eclectic mix of films, documentaries, music videos, and quote fragments from, among others, Virginia Woolf, Roger Caillois, and T.S. Eliot, as well as music by Chopin and Britney Spears, to name a few. At its core, the work is a semiotic project that explores the process of interpreting and decoding the endless signs, signals, and messages that circulate and flow through our media-saturated reality. A world where speed, the fight for attention, algorithms, along with mis- and disinformation challenge the boundaries between truth and falsehood, real and fake, knowledge and entertainment, the meaningful and the meaningless.
Ørjan Amundsen lives and works in Berger, Buskerud. He was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tromsø, UiT, and the Academy of Fine Arts in Trondheim, NTNU. Amundsen’s artistic practice involves video, music, text, and installation, often in combination. By focusing on the power and ubiquity of media, he explores the communicative strategies and systems of meaning circulating in our contemporary media landscape, aiming to expose and test the possibilities for manipulation and meaning creation.
