Matilde Westavik Gaustad

I En god dag på Leuke lar jeg de gule trådene forme Leuke, den hvite øya i gresk mytologi, hvor det lå et tempel for krigeren Akilles. I dag er øya kjent som Slangeøya i Ukraina.

BIO

Matilde Westavik Gaustad (f. 1987, Trondheim) bor i Trondheim og har mastergrad fra Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi i København. Hun arbeider med billedvev og video, både som enkeltstående verk og i romlige installasjoner. I arbeidene undersøker hun ofte det underlige, og iblant ubehagelige, ved forholdet og grensene mellom mennesker, dyr og teknologi.

In A Good Day on Leuke, I let the yellow threads of wool and cotton to shape Leuke, the white island of Greek mythology, where a temple dedicated to the warrior Achilles once stood. Today, the island is known as Snake Island, off the coast of Ukraine.

Matilde Westavik Gaustad (b. 1987, Trondheim) is a visual artist based in Trondheim, who holds an MFA from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen (2016). She works with handwoven tapestry and video, as individual works and installations.

A central theme in her work is the odd — and at times unsettling — boundaries and relationships between humans, animals, and technology.
